Bangalore, India. BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals, a Parkway Pantai enterprise, successfully pioneered the day care Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) transplant program for low risk transplants like autologous transplant for multiple myeloma and mini-allo transplant for various hematological disorders. The program was initiated over a year back.
So far, 5 patients have received treatment at the day care centre in Bangalore. Stem cell collection, chemotherapy and stem cell infusion was all done on a day care basis. Patients followed up daily for clinical assessment and blood work on an outpatient basis.
Bone marrow transplant is a life-saving procedure for various disorders like leukemia, bone marrow failure, thalassemia, multiple myeloma and so on. Major limitation of performing this procedure is the associated financial burden. Most patients cannot afford this costly treatment.
The day care BMT centre tackles this issue as it cuts down costs by almost half, making it more affordable for patients. Under this program, most of these patients are admitted only for an average of 6 days, as compared to 3-4 weeks, if done as an inpatient. They are admitted only if the white blood cell count drops to critically low levels. Overall, it was noted that infection rates were similar to that of inpatient services, expenses were halved, utilization of hospital resources and manpower was more effective and the patients were able to cope up with the procedure better. All these and more make day care BMT a feasible option in a developing country like India.
Somashekar, a 52 year old individual is one of the 5 to have availed this service at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals. He hails from a remote village in Mysore. He presented to a nephrologist with breathing difficulty and severe swelling of both legs along with kidney failure. On further investigation, it was found that he had developed a bone marrow condition called MIDD causing protein leak in the kidneys and kidney failure. At this stage, he was advised chemotherapy and BMT to manage this life threatening disease. He received most of his chemotherapy in Mysore in coordination with the BMT team at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals. Following this, he underwent day care BMT at almost half the cost when compared to conventional inpatient BMT. This mode of treatment also lowered the risks of hospital acquired infections and the patient showed greater tolerability of the procedure. Somashekar is now doing well and his disease is still under control after 2 years of diagnosis.
Dr Sachin Jadhav, Group in charge, Hematology and BMT, Gleneagles Global Hospitals, Bengaluru commented on the initiative, “We are the only team to perform day care BMT in India. We witnessed this idea in Vancouver, Canada where a colleague and I had been on training. When we came back to India, this appeared to be a feasible option for the numerous needy patients who were unable to match the financial burden associated with BMT, many of whom passed away of disease progression. As a team, we worked hard to get this up and running. Now we have a sustainable and established day care BMT program.”
Patient’s quality of care is not compromised in this procedure. Chemotherapy and stem cell infusion is carried out as a day care procedure. The patient will continue to follow up with his/her doctor every day. The doctor does a thorough examination of the patient’s blood work and if everything appears to be normal, patient is discharged.
A better understanding of BMT procedure, less toxic chemotherapy options, the sound knowledge & 24/7 services of a dedicated transplant team, early identification and effective treatment of complications is what has made day care BMT a possibility.

Bangalore.‘Crazy for Cars’ was the spirit that reflected in Inorbit Mall, Whitefield as hundreds of children geared up to be a part of the Hot Wheels car fiesta. Hot Wheels, flagship brand from Mattel Toys, brought to the spectators a never-seen-before car installation while playing host to a revving event aptly called ‘The Epic Race.’
The Boneshaker- the special attraction of the affair was the massive life size car created with over 5500 Hot Wheels 1:64 die-cast cars. This life size car’s number plate was painted with a special number ‘68’ signifying the launch year of the brand Hot Wheels. The Surf & Turf was the hero of the day showcasing the wide range and variety of Hot Wheels models. The car also served as an exciting selfie point for several kids who gathered around it, marveling the brilliant blend of design and creativity. The master piece invited attention from a lot of visitors and car enthusiasts across the city who remained awed by the unique piece of art. The installation was no less than a dream car that every young kid aspires to own.
Hot Wheels also played host to a mind-boggling race from an elevated platform, where all participants were given the exciting opportunity to choose from an array of model cars to get going. The winners pocketed the license to race in shopping zones. The Epic Race also featured anEngineering Zone which allowed kids to build their own epic stunts. Keeping in line with the philosophy of ‘Play with Purpose’ there was also a series of challenges for the kids and parents alike that entitled them to create, experiment and compete while unleashing the energy of an epic display of Hot Wheels.
Mattel Toys has focused its efforts around the core philosophy of ‘Play with purpose’ – where each toy developed by the global leader has an intrinsic benefit linked to it. The toy-cars of Hot Wheels not only engages a child, but also gives practical knowledge about Physics & maths like speed and distance. The Epic Race is designed in a manner to establish the importance of play in the lives of children by boosting their creativity, imagination and letting them push their limits.
Inorbit Mall will be home to the Epic Race for the next 10 days, giving children of Bengaluru an epic experience of a lifetime.

The most versatile laptop

Bengaluru.Leprosy Mission Trust India and Novartis hosted a special screening of The Unwanted – a documentary on leprosy at the JW Marriott, Bangalore today. Produced by NDTV PRIME, the documentary sheds light upon the social stigma associated with the disease while drawing attention to the state of leprosy affected people by creating a conversation around the subject.
World Health Organisation (WHO) norms state that leprosy is eliminated only if the prevalence of the disease is less than one case per 10,000 persons. This status was achieved by India in the year 2005, but India still has the largest population of leprosy affected people in the world.
A global report from 2015 states that 60% of the 2,12,000 people detected with leprosy were from India. This rate has been steadily declining since then, but there are still over 10 million people in India who do not receive adequate nutritional support, resulting in very low immunity and therefore being susceptible to catching the disease. The next step is to eradicate the leprosy from its roots and have zero cases reported.
The thought provoking documentary was screened to address the stories of those with leprosy that range from abandonment, discrimination and pain to physical deformation. It also highlighted the need to render human service to those in need and in the process help create ways to eradicate the spread of this non-infectious disease.
The screening was attended by Jawed Zia, Country President - Novartis India, former cricketer Syed Kirmani, Shalini Rajneesh, IAS, Principal Secretary,Health & Family Welfare Services Govt of Karnataka and several others.

Bengaluru. Digitalisation has been the buzzword today. It has a great impact on every walk of our life. In this process, the future of digitalization has been unpredictable. This was discussed threadbare at the event organized by FICCI and FLO at Hotel The Oberoi on 3rd June 2017. FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) is the largest and oldest apex business organisation in India. It is a non-government, non-profit organization which serves nearly 2,50,000 companies from private, public and corporate sectors. The FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation) is a forum for women entrepreneurs, professionals and Corporate Executives.
The event discussed the past, present and future of digital India, under the heading “DIGITAL INDIA; QUO VADIS“(Digital India: Where are we going?) The key note address, delivered by Amitabh Kant, CEO Niti Aayog delineated the government’s Digital India Programme. His address set a stage for an interesting panel discussion on where we are on the Digital India journey, what has worked well and what needs to be done.
Amitabh Kant, CEO Niti Aayog stated that with a biggest technological transformation in 3 – 4 years we’ll see a huge acceleration towards virtual banks. We’ll bypass ATMs, POS, Debit and Credit cards. India is the only country which has billion biometric record attached to UID, this will help achieve complete digitization very soon. In all of this, women will play a very significant role; the persuasive power of women is going to change the face of India. Around the world, 40% of Nations’ GDP comes from women, whereas in India the total women working population is just about 24% adding only 17% to the GDP.”
FICCI Chairman, Shekar Vishwanathan expressed that “the discussion would highlight the challenges of achieving a Digital India and pave way for digital literacy in the country. The discussion would carry pointers on how to handle the opportunities that a Digital India will generate.”
Author and Serial Entrepreneur Aroon Raman said “With the technological vision, Digital India has to be blended a clear and deep understanding of social and economic conditions in the society. Otherwise we might suffer the law of unintended consequences.’’

Mumbai. Private sector life insurer, IndiaFirst Life Insurance today said it has settled claims amounting to Rs 161 crore and supported around 8,000 families under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) scheme so far.
Moreover, the company has witnessed an enrolment of more than 2 million lives under the group scheme for the current policy period which began early this month.

Over the last 2 years, the company has settled a claim of Rs 161 crore and supported around 8,000 families under the scheme, a company statement said.
PMJJBY, the financial inclusion scheme promoted by the government was launched in June 2015.
IndiaFirst Life Insurance has begun its third year of enrolment now.
The scheme provides life cover of Rs 2 lakh at an annual premium of Rs 330.
"IndiaFirst Life has been participating in the financial inclusion movement in line with the government's initiatives to ensure a financially secure India," RM Vishakha, managing director and chief executive, IndiaFirst Life Insurance said.
"We are aligned with the government's vision of making insurance not only affordable, but also simple, accessible and efficiently serviced for the mass market," she added.
The company serviced more than 2.3 million lives in the past two policy periods (June'15-May'16) and (June'16-May'17).

Bangalore. Doctors at Fortis Hospital, Rajajinagar, Bangalore performed a complex urological procedure on a 64 year old man recently. The patient was diagnosed with a tumor in prostate and kidney. The application of the unique technique desisted the chance of prostate removal & its consequent effects. The team of doctors was led by Dr Premkumar K, Consultant Urologist & Renal Transplant, Fortis Hospital, Rajajinagar, Bangalore.
The patient Mr Raju complained of difficulty while urinating when he approached doctors for consultation. With further examination and diagnosis, his prostate-specific-antigen (PSA) level was found to be at 7ng/mL as against 4.0 ng/mL or lower. PSA is a protein produced by cells of the prostate gland. Under the circumstances, radical prostatectomy; i.e. an operation to remove the prostate gland and some of the tissue around it, and Partial Nephrectomy was the expert medical prognosis. The procedure not only got rid of any chance of relapse of tumor in the adjoining areas but also eradicated the fear of losing control of urination and erectile dysfunction. The proficient procedure the nerves and continence were preserved after surgery.
Speaking about the entire procedure, Dr. Premkumar K, Consultant Urologist and Renal Transplantation Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore said, “While preparing for the surgery, we carried out a few scans to check any malignancy anywhere else in the body. The PET test revealed that the patient also had cancer in his left kidney which measured about 3.5 cm. We decided to take out both the tumours in a single sitting. We did radical prostatectomy and Partial Nephrectomy-removal of 1/4th of affected part of kidney while preserving the remainder of the kidney. This is a minimal invasive method, which provides good result when compared to the traditional open surgery. He recovered very well, and got back to normal diet, in five days post-surgery.”
Mr Raju said, “My world went completely haywire when I learned about cancer. With just two weeks away for my daughter’s wedding, I was completely devastated. It is because of the thoughtful medical intervention by the doctors that I was back on my feet in just five days hale and hearty. I am forever indebted to my doctors for this.”

COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH (CSIR) SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH THE METAL INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (MIDI), ETHIOPIA
Keeping in line with Prime Minister Modi’s stress on stronger and long-term cooperation between African countries and India for mutual benefits in the areas of agriculture, women empowerment, rural development, infrastructure etc., while addressing the annual meeting of African Development Bank at Gujarat recently, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has entered into an agreement with the Metal Industries Development Institute (MIDI), Ethiopia to implement a twinning programme. The same is aimed at R&D capacity building of MIDI. CSIR has clinched this multi-million US dollar assignment through a process where many international organisations were considered. The twinning is one of the largest programs (in terms of contractual amount) between a CSIR institute and a foreign entity. It should also facilitate CSIR’s future collaborations with African Organizations.
The agreement was signed on 7th June, 2017 at Addis Ababa in the gracious presence of H.E. Dr. Alemu Sime, State Minister of Industry, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Teshome Lemma, State Minister of Education, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Girish Sahni, Director General, CSIR and H.E. Mr. Anurag Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Ethiopia, Djibouti and African Union. Dr. Girish Sahni on the occasion said that the knowledgebase of CSIR in the identified areas could be of immense importance for leveraging the technology capacity of African countries. He invited the industry to join hands with CSIR and its counterparts in respective African countries to deploy the technology for benefitting the masses in the region.
The agreement was signed by the Director of National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur (CSIR-NML) on behalf of the participating CSIR Laboratories, and the Director General of Metals Industry Development Institute (MIDI), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. CSIR will enhance the capacity and capability of MIDI under the twinning arrangement and thereby enable it to contribute more efficiently towards the development of Metals and Engineering sectors in Ethiopia and thus enhance their competitiveness. The MIDI will be positioned to emerge as a globally competitive center of excellence in the field of Metals and Engineering, through the twinning programme.
This agreement signing is the follow-up action of the execution of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between Metal Industry Development Institute (MIDI), Ethiopia and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. The assessment of the requirements of MIDI and GAP analysis of MIDI were major initial activities which a CSIR team carried out as a prelude to Twinning with MIDI. The constituent laboratories of CSIR, namely CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur, CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh and CSIR-CLRI, Chennai, through a common collaboration platform, will execute the twinning arrangement. These laboratories have demonstrated expertise in minerals and metals extraction, casting, forming and shaping of metals, manufacturing processes and process controls, electronics and instrumentation's, soft skills and quality management systems.

Bengaluru. Tejas Networks Limited (the “Company” or “Issuer”) proposes to open on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, an initial public offering of equity shares of face value of Rs. 10 each (“Equity Shares”) for cash (including a share premium) (the “Offer”) comprising of a fresh issue of Equity Shares aggregating up to Rs. 4,500 million (“Fresh Issue”) and an offer for sale of up to 12,711,605 Equity Sharesby Selling Shareholders (“Offer For Sale”). The Bid/ Offer will close on Friday, June 16, 2017.
The Price Band for the Offer is fixed from Rs. 250 to Rs. 257 per Equity Share. Bids can be made for a minimum of 55 Equity Shares and in multiples of 55 Equity Shares thereafter.
The Book Running Lead Managers (“BRLMs”) to the Offer are Axis Capital Limited, Citigroup Global Markets India Private Limited, Edelweiss Financial Services Limited and Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities (India) Private Limited.

Further, not more than 15% of the Offer shall be available for allocation on a proportionate basis to Non-Institutional Bidders and not more than 10% of the Offer shall be available for allocation to Retail Individual Bidders in accordance with the SEBI ICDR Regulations, subject to valid Bids being received at or above the Offer Price. Our company is carrying lot of Social Responsibility Works every year for thousands of needy peoples and talented children. We are also giving Tri Cycles for Handicapped people.
Every month, KVS Fans Charitable Trust in collaboration with Aashra Foundation, supported by DS-MAX Properties Pvt. Ltd organizes ‘Free Eye Cataract Surgery’ at the well-known Dr. Modi Hospital for people who are not able to get their eye operated due to financial reasons. Thousands of people along with renowned personalities attend the event. During the event, food, snacks and juices are offered to the patients. In addition our company conducted blood and eye donation campaigns, scholarships to poor children, mass marriages. Dr. Hons K V.Satish, Chairman of DS-MAX Properties Pvt. Ltd attends the patients who have undergone operation and greets them with gifts to encourage and support them. The patients are treated free of cost along with free transportation, food distribution to
all cancer patients and medication.
